Each clattering dish thrown from one end of the pantry to the other, each and every whimpering footstep that was sent to their room with no chance for supper; they all had had some sort of lasting effect on the puny freckled child. Her rounded face used to be stained with tears, her jawline was like a slip-'n-slide for cracked hands to just whip straight across. Knowing her, she'd flinch when you took even one step near her; it was in her best interest to never get close to someone whom she could not trust as far as she could throw.
